Dialogue work in Norway
In Norway, the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue focuses on trainings and workshops, as well as presentations and facilitation of inclusive meeting places. Training courses are basically part of long-term collaboration efforts promoting dialogue, relationship building and inclusion.
We welcome visits from school classes and go out to schools with educational programs on topics such as identity and prejudice, human dignity and racism, democracy, and cultural diversity.
The Nansen Center for Peace actively works with schools in Innlandet as part of the national Dembra network and offers courses and guidance on how schools can build democratic preparedness and prevent prejudice, exclusion, and racism.
Dialogue work in Norway:
Public dialogue on freedom of expression
A public dialogue is freedom of expression in practice. It can serve as a counterforce to echo chambers and polarized debates, while still creating space for conversation about contentious topics. During the Nordic Conference on the Freedom of Expression Climate and Spaces at the HL Centre, the Nansen Peace Centre facilitated a public dialogue with freedom of expression as the theme.
Peacebuilding in the Salmon Conflict: The Dialogue Process in the Tana River Basin
The management of the world-famous Tana River is causing controversy. The Nansen Center for Peace is collaborating with the National Wild Salmon Center to get the parties in the conflict to talk to each other.
The Nansen Seminar: Preparedness for Peace
The Nansen Seminar brings together the Norwegian peace movement, activists, politicians, organizational leaders, academic communities, students, and others interested in current issues related to war and peace in a broad sense. The seminar is a collaboration between the Nansen Peace Center, the Nansen Academy, and the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences. In 2024, we focused on alternative ways of thinking about preparedness.
