Democracy against prejudice and exclusion
DEMBRA supports schools and teacher education programs in their work to prevent prejudice and group hostility by developing democratic preparedness. The service is free of charge.
Dembra Resources
The Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training recommends Dembra as a competence measure in schools.
Dembra (Democratic Preparedness Against Racism, Antisemitism, and Undemocratic Attitudes) offers schools (all grade levels) and teacher education programs:
Tailored guidance
Events
Online resources for schools and teacher education.
The goal is to strengthen each school's work on democratic preparedness against various forms of hostility towards groups:
- Prejudice
- Xenophobia
- Racism
- Islamophobia
- Antisemitism
- Extremism
The offer is based on the school's own needs related to democracy education and the prevention of hostility towards groups. Dembra provides support and new perspectives in the development work that is already underway at the school.
Through free participation in Dembra, your school or teacher education program will receive:
Its own Dembra mentor for up to one and a half years
Better overview of initiatives
Strengthened collaborative culture
Support in further developing and streamlining the work teachers are already doing in this area
The school follows a process that involves mapping, selecting focus areas, implementing initiatives/activities/courses, evaluating, and continuing efforts.
Being a Dembra school is completely free.
Background
Dembra is supported by the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Research. The work is part of the government's efforts against racism and antisemitism, and is included in the preventive work against radicalization and violent extremism.
