Pockets of Peace Online | October Meetup

The Pedagogy of Discomfort: food for thought for dialogue facilitation and dialogue work in schools

In this Pockets of Peace meetup, researcher Cindy Yovanov will introduce the concept of the Pedagogy of Discomfort, a well-established theoretical framework that can serve as food for thought both in dialogue facilitation and in the dialogue work done in schools.

Cindy is a PhD candidate in Education at Drexel University in the United States doing her thesis on critical peace education and democratic practice through an ethnographic case study of an anti‑prejudice program in Norwegian schools (Dembra; www.dembra.no - that the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue also forms part of)

Cindy’s presentation will open a shared reflection about how discomfort functions in dialogue spaces — when it opens something up, when it shuts it down, and what we as facilitators can do to make the difference. And what are the differences between working with adults and children in this aspect?

This is an event in the Pockets of Peace meetup series; a bi-monthly, online, free event exclusively for alumni from the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue courses. They are a space for knowledge-sharing and reflection amongst alumni always linked to dialogue and peace. It follows a format of a presentation made by an invited presenter and then shared reflections amongst the participants.

Please use the forms link to sign up for the event. You will then receive a confirmation and a Zoom link before the event.
